Most enthusiasts undergo rigorous training sessions aimed at increasing their strength and stamina by working all major muscle groups of the body such as the biceps, triceps, hamstrings, glutes, abdominals, arms, shoulders, legs, back etc. The emphasis in bodybuilding is laid on enhancing the form of the entire body through methodological exercises and techniques.

Bodybuilding exercises not only help you put on lean muscle mass but also increase the overall fitness levels of the body, thereby promoting good health and longevity. Triceps Kickback is a popular bodybuilding exercise that aims at working the arms.

Arms are the masterpieces of puissance and power. Well developed arms go a long way in enhancing your overall performance and enabling you to perform better in a number of sports and activities of day to day life. Elbow bending and the arms play a significant role in enhancing the forehand strokes in tennis and squash, long shot in golf, shoot in hockey, dodging the opponent in rugby, dribbling and dunking in basketball, lifting heavy weights and in climbing. Triceps in a part of the arms which is involved in various actions of the upper body such as over the head hitting and throwing movements as in tennis, basketball, volleyball and net ball, pushing actions as in shot put, the chest pass in basketball and punching in boxing.

Some individuals think that training the biceps alone helps them develop strong arms. But this is not true. Triceps are the largest part of the arms and it is essential to concentrate on their development in order to achieve maximum benefits. Triceps kickback is an ideal exercise for isolating and focusing on the development of the arms. This exercise is great for developing the Triceps, particularly, the outer region.

Starting Position of the Triceps Kickback:

Hold the dumbbell in one hand.

Curl forward from the waist until your torso is parallel to the base.

Place the other hand and knee over a bench on order to steady yourself.

Make sure that your back is straight and horizontal.

Arch your working arm at a 90 degree angle on the elbow and carry it in such a way that it is parallel to the nearer side of your body.

The dumbbell should be suspended straight down beneath the elbow.

The Movement:

Keep your elbow still and extend your arm backward till it is straight and horizontal.
Pause for a count of two and gradually return to the start position.
Repeat the exercise with the alternate arm and continue for the desired number of repetitions.

Tips:

You must stretch your arm in regulated movements.
Avoid swinging the dumbbell backwards as this increases the chance of injury.
Keep your upper arms absolutely still and focus on moving only the forearms.
Make sure that your lower back is flat and stationary.
Always lift a light weight as this exercise is difficult to perform and can damage the muscles if the wrong technique is incorporated.

Prior to performing any bodybuilding exercises, it is essential for you to consult a registered medical practitioner in order to determine if your body is capable of handling the stress involved or not. You must discuss any ailments you might be suffering from with your doctor such as coronary heart disease, hypertension, stress, anxiety related disorders, diabetes, cancer etc. before enrolling in any exercise program to avail maximum benefits.
