Conjugative linoleic acid or CLA belongs to the family of many isomers of linoleic acid primarily found in meat and dairy products of ruminants or grass eating cattle. CLA was first isolated in 1983 by Parzia from ground meat but the structure was determined later. It is not recommended for expectant or nursing mothers as it reduces the fat content of human milk, which is the primary source for infants to obtain adequate calories resulting in improper growth and development.
