HMB Information for hardcore bodybuilding enthusiasts

HMB or high muscle builder is also known as hydroxy methylbutyrate, beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate or b-hydroxy-b-methylbutyrate. It is a metabolite of the amino acid L-Leucine and is naturally synthesized by the body. It is manufactured in the human body and is required during strenuous exercises performed while weightlifting and body building. In order to avail maximum benefit from the product it is essential for body building enthusiasts to have adequate HMB information.

HMB an effect of Leucine:

HMB is produced in the human body when the branch chain amino acid leucine breaks down during rigorous exercise sessions such as weight lifting and body building. Leucine is an important amino acid that helps regulated blood sugar, boosts energy levels in the body, enhances the production of human growth hormones (HGH), helps recover from injury and augments the process of repair of muscle tissue. Only 5% of Leucine is converted to HMB in the body therefore supplementation may be required for hardcore bodybuilders.

Leucine was discovered from cheese by Proust in 1818. It was isolated by Ehrlich in 1903. It is ketogenic in nature and plays an important role in the process of muscle building.

Benefits of HMB:

It helps reduce muscle tissue breakdown that takes place during strenuous bodybuilding exercises such as weight lifting, endurance training, resistance training etc. with less muscle tissue to repair the body accelerates the process of recuperation, thereby building more muscle mass.

It raises the bodies ability to burn fat and build muscle mass.

It enhances the process of protein metabolism.

It curtails the protein breakdown in the body during intense training sessions and leads to an increase in muscle mass and strength.

It assists in preventing muscle tissue catabolism.

It boosts the immune system and helps the body fight a number of diseases.

It helps preserve muscle tissue in patients suffering from cancer or immune deficiencies such as AIDS (Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome).

It helps prevent muscle wastage in the body.

HMB is a supplement of choice for a number of bodybuilders as it helps gain muscle, increases energy and aids post workout recovery.

It increases the development of lean muscle mass.

Mechanism of HMB:

A crucial aspect of HMB information is the way the product works on the body. HMB delays the process of proteolysis or the natural process of breaking down of muscle tissue that occurs due to intense physical activity. It helps speed the process of recovery, thereby enabling bodybuilding enthusiasts to gain more muscle mass rapidly.

Dietary Sources and Dosage of HMB:

HMB is found in minute amounts in animal and plant foods such as catfish and alfalfa. The recommended dosage for supplementation is 3 g per day. It is not advisable for pregnant or nursing women to take the product. Also, children and those with chronic kidney disease must not use it.

Side effects of HMB:

An overdose of HMB may result in nausea dizziness, vomiting, stomach upset etc. It might also upset the natural balance of the body or result in kidney or liver disease.

Before taking any supplements, it is recommended that you consult a registered medical practitioner in order to determine if the product is meant for you or not. You must also keep in mind any physical ailments you might be suffering from such as diabetes, coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, depression, asthma, kidney or liver disease before taking any products.

HMB is taken with glutamine, creatine and carbohydrates for maximum benefit. In order to acquire a great body it is important to follow a strict workout regime combined with a well balanced diet plan, rest and supplementation plan. It takes a great deal of hard work consistency and dedication to develop a well sculpted muscular body.
