A Brief Guide To Prepare For A Bodybuilding Contest

If you are going to participate in a bodybuilding contest, you must know how to prepare yourself for it. The first thing that is very important for you to keep in mind is that body building is not just about having a defined muscular physique. Your appearance matters, but your physical capability matters more.

A major part of your preparation should be focused on maintaining and improving your physical capabilities. You will find the following information useful in this regard.

Diet Planning

You must start working on your diet plans at least ninety days before the bodybuilding contest. The best diet plan for you is the one that helps you maintain as much lean muscle mass as possible and also allows you to lose body fat at the same time. You should take small, frequent meals – 6 to 8 times throughout a day.

Your meal should include regular oatmeal, slow-digesting carbs including yams, red potatoes, fruits, and brown rice, whole grains, spinach, asparagus, broccoli, other green vegetables, fish, boneless and skinless chicken breasts, low-fat cheeses, egg whites, and ground turkey. Your daily meals must include some healthy fats also, such as food cooked in safflower oil, extra virgin olive oil, and natural peanut butter.

Weight Training

You also need to undergo proper weight training so that you can condition, shape and refine your muscles properly before the bodybuilding contest. Your priority should be to improve those parts of your body that lack shape and muscle. A general rule of thumb is to work on two muscle groups each day – 2-3 sets of 10-20 repetitions for each exercise. Do it for three consecutive days in a week. Then you can take rest for a day and then do some weight training for lower body and upper body for the next two consecutive days. A few words of caution – this is not the right time to try new exercises. Besides that, you must also avoid over training.

Increase Your Cardiovascular Regimen

In order to step up your metabolism and increase blood flow, you must also do at least two moderate-level half-an-hour cardio sessions every week. You must also be very careful about the types of supplements you are taking. It is often advisable to increase your protein intake before a bodybuilding contest.
