Alcohol Withdrawal And Fitness

Alcoholism and consumption of alcohol has been one of the most traditional forms of intoxication and recreation for the human race. Alcohol consumption dates back to the monolithic era and scientific evidences for alcoholism even in the pre-civilization periods are also being explored. Although, alcohol drinks constitute a major part of any party or celebration, still it is also a well known fact that alcohol is a habit forming substance and alcoholism could be a major cause of many health problems. As an important aspect of health and fitness we have already discussed the bad affects of alcohol on an athletes health in a previous article. In the present article we would try to reflect upon the possibility of alcohol withdrawal and maintenance of physical fitness.
Health problems encountered as an early symptom of withdrawal
Although, it is a very good thing to withdraw or quit alcohol consumption but it would be important to understand that in case of an abrupt withdrawal there could be certain problems viz. tremor, sweating, vomiting, diarrhoea, fever, raised blood pressure and insomnia, in certain cases delirium or hallucinations can be experienced as well.
Apart from theses symptoms restlessness, confusion and postural problems may also be experienced, initially. In this way alcohol withdrawal is not an easy choice and needs strong perseverance as well as will power. In this context exercising and use of alternatie methodologies could be a very important aspect to avoid withdrawal symptoms.
Relaxation therapy or stress reducing exercising may prove effective
It has been a validated fact that relaxation exercises and exercises like Yoga or aerobicsi can be highly beneficial to amelirate the withdrawal syndrome. Pranayama a yoga based action is highly beneficial in reducing the restlessness as well as in reducing withdrawal symptoms.
Aversion therapy and social training
Apart from exercising an aversion therapy which may include giving electrical shock, use of chemical agents or imaginal techniques could be highly useful in the treatment as well as reduction of alcohol consumption. Social training is also found to be highly effective in this regard.
In totality, quitting alcoholism needs a lot of will power and strength although, with use of scientifically available techniques the success rate could be increased tremendously. In the same series we would continue to have a look at the various techniques available for reducing the withdrawal symptoms and improving health and fitness conditions.
