Balanced Diet for Health
To maintain a good healthy body, it is very necessary for an individual to apt for appropriate food habits and to consume sufficient nutrients and vitamins in his regular diet. A balanced diet lowers the possibilities of malnutrition and diseases that occur due to their scarcity. Food containing equivalent proportion of proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals and water signifies a balanced diet. Further it is advised to consult a dietitian for a diet chart as the above proportions may vary as daily activities and body metabolism rate vary from person to person.
In a balanced diet fats and proteins endow with sufficient energy levels for a person to avoid exhaustion while performing routine activities. Proteins are also used as foundation building blocks for growth and restore damaged body tissues. As per the dieticians, an average adult requires approximately 12,000kJ energy per day for which adequate amount of carbohydrates, also known as body fuel is required.
It can be obtained by including varieties of wheat, cereals, rice, refined sugar and potatoes in food. An important portion of balanced diet is fatty acids, which are further divided into two categories i.e. saturated fatty acids and unsaturated fatty acids.
Lack of necessary fatty acids in one’s body consequences in restricted growth found mainly in kids, reduced capability to heal wounds, scaling of skin and regular hair loss. The meat and animal products should be included in food to fulfill the requirements of saturated fatty acids whereas use of unsaturated fatty acids i.e. foliage oil like soya oil, sunflower oil, while cooking food lowers the possibilities of diseases like obesity, diabetes, hypertension etc.
Fish, eggs and pulses can be consumed by the person who wants to add protein to their diet plan. A balanced diet should also contain proper amount of water to support the easy digestion of food.
