June 10, 2008

Green tea is consumed widely in most places of the world for its taste as well as antioxidant behaviors. Green tea contains a family of molecules called ECGC, or epigallocatechin gallate, which contains anti-oxidants about 100 times stronger than Vitamin C. It’s been shown in numerous studies to reduce levels of total cholesterol in the human body, and many of its health benefits may still be unknown. It’s a popular drink whose daily intake rivals water and coffee worldwide, and a good dietary option for most people.Green Tea for Bodybuilders and Health

Constituents of green tea

Catechins – The polyphenols are generally considered to be the most important elements of green tea, with the catechins being the most important polyphenols. Catechins found in green tea include EC, EGC, ECG, and EGCG.

Of these,EGCG((-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate) is by far the most active by itself, but the combination of catechins can be especially effective for cancer protection [3], and EC appears to increase the incorporation of EGCG and ECG into lipid bilayers [4], emphasizing the importance of synergistic effects between the various components of green tea. Although the numbers vary, green tea is generally made up of about 10% polyphenols, 50% of which are EGCG. The green tea catechins have been studied extensively and will be the primary focus of this article.

The Benefits of Green Tea for Weight Loss. You’re about to discover what might be the most powerful fat loss system ever developed. It’s the same diet program fitness models and bodybuilders use to reach single digit body fat levels and achieve muscle definition that makes them look like walking anatomy charts. One of the healthy compounds in green tea is EGCG. This is a plant based ingredient, also known as a flavonoid that is linked to the healthy benefits of green tea. These compounds are antioxidants by nature and can help to reduce the effects of environmental strain on cells.

Besides their ease of use, supplements also take care of the complaints some people have when taking green tea in its more traditional brewed form. Those complains include the tea’s somewhat bitter taste as well side effects from its caffeine content. One six-ounce cup of green tea contains approximately 30 mg. of caffeine, so people who are caffeine sensitive should take green tea 300 diet supplements instead of brewed tea. In addition, more than six cups of green tea a day can lead to sleeplessness, irregular heart beat, diarrhea, vomiting, dizziness and headaches. Taken as a dietary supplement, green tea extract generally comes in 500 mg. capsules taken two or three times daily.

Green Tea does have caffeine which would explain the thermogenic effects and aid toward fat loss since it will bring your core temperature up increasing the metabolism slightly as well. It seems scientists are now finding in studies that it helps prevent and maybe even treat many diseases and cancers (some hormonal cancers as well such as ovarian, breast and prostate), cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure and cholesterol. Even arthritis can be helped through its anti inflammatory properties yet is non toxic even in higher amount over long terms. Green tea seems to be helpful to the joints so for those with joint problems it is a great beverage to include in your diet.
