Body Building and Muscular Hypertrophy

As a body builder the most important aspect for you is to gain weight and to enhance muscular growth. The growth of muscles from a strengthening or a body building point of view is in general termed as hypertrophy.

How does muscular hypertrophy occurs?

Muscular hypertrophy is in general, a means of muscles to expand themselves, to sustain the increasing demand for strength which is placed in the form of exercises etc.

As a result of increasing pressure on the muscles in the form of weight training or exercise, the muscle responses with hypertrophy or growth and bulge. In reverse to this, a lack of exercise or a reduced work load and lack of nutrition may lead to muscle breakdown, which is also known as ‘atrophy’.

Muscle growth and hypertrophy

As a result of increased muscular growth, the actin and myosin proteins of the muscles generally enlarge and strengthen. There is an evident increase in the number of myofibrils, as well as in the number of blood capillaries supplying blood and nutrition to the muscles. With increasing work overload there is an increased amount of connective tissue observed in the muscles as well.

Tips for an enhanced and sustained muscular hypertrophy

There are three basic requirements that govern an optimum level of muscular hypertrophy as far as body building phenomena is concerned. The first and foremost is the exercise and the amount of pressure that is being put on to the muscles, second important factor is the rest and optimum interval.

The importance of interval training has already been detailed in one of our previous article. The third important factor is the diet. Therefore, to have a proper muscle build up it is very important that a protein rich diet is delivered to the body. Secondly a high fat rich diet should be cut down as it leads to adipose tissue build up resulting in inappropriate fat depositions and lack of muscle build up.

In total, a proper muscular growth is a combination of hard work and sensible approach.
