Body Mass Index is an Important Indicator of Health
We all are aware that our height increases only up to a certain period of life and after this the body stops growing against the gravity, whilst we keep putting on weight. Amongst height and weight, we have a rather specific control over the weight compared to height and therefore, it becomes important for us to realize that our weight is the key factor to our health and fitness. The whole concept of body mass index was developed by a Belgian statistician Adolphe Quelet. A simple way to calculate the body mass index is by dividing your weight in kilograms by the square of your height in meters. While, body mass index is now a world accepted criteria for determining obesity, it also is considered as an important factor for health and fitness determination in adults.
How does you body mass index figure out?
Body mass index which is also known as body mass indicator is a very sensible way of assessing your current fitness level, while a body mass index below 18.5 indicates a underweight body, a body mass index of 18.4-24.9 is an indicator of healthy and normal weight body, anything above 25 up to 29.9 is an alarming signal of being overweight and 30 and above is a clear cut indicator of obesity and associated health problems.

It is very important to have a watch on your weight, considering your height on a regular basis, as soon as you observe a movement in the upwards direction above 24, you should begin to get cautious with your diet and exercising. It is advisable to change your eating and work habits if alarm bells begin to ring with an increasing BMI indicator.
