Bodybuilding Equipment: Keep It Simple
June 26, 2008
When it comes to bodybuilding, most people think they need to join a gym in order to reach the results their after. This simply isn’t true, as you can get the results your after in the comfort of your own home; you just need the proper bodybuilding equipment. First, you have to determine what your goals are. If your goal is to get big, then you can build your base using the most basic of equipment. It’s only after you hit a plateau that you may need to go heavier. In the beginning, however, you only need a couple of dumbbells or a workout machine to get the results you’re after. In fact, all the bodybuilding equipment you need can be purchased at your local department store for less than a hundred dollars in most cases.
Bodybuilding Equipment
Lifters will argue for hours over what body building equipment you really need in order to perform the sport. At its simplest the only piece of body building equipment you need is yourself – body-weight exercise such as pull-ups, dips, squats and bench dips will go a long way towards developing a good physique.
However, when most people talk body building equipment they are talking barbells and dumbbells. With these somewhat primitive metal plates and bars, you can work every muscle in the body in innumerable different ways.
Machines are probably best suited to people who just want to keep fit, like weight control, tone muscles or for aerobic purposes. There are many machines available today, gyms provide aerobic circuits which you would use very easily by starting on one type of machine and working out for a minute or so then continuing onto the next machine which will be a different type of exercise, you will find that aerobic circuits are laid out in such a manner that you would start possibly by a minute cycling, followed by chest presses and so on, giving the previous body part a chance to recuperate. The aerobic circuit would be ideal for an endomorph on their off-days.
Variable Resistance Machines
What are variable resistance machines? Think Nautilus® or Bowflex®. Both are variable resistance machines that provide an alternative to free weight training.
The primary advantage is the constant resistance in the range of movement for the muscle group you are training. Another huge advantage over traditional weight training is that by working with constant resistance, you make the muscle stronger and you do it much faster than the traditional method.
This type of training also lets you deliver exactly the amount of exercise you desire to whatever specific muscle group you are working. There is the benefit of working that resistance through a greater range of movement as you can reduce your training time.
Reshaping Your Body with Bodybuilding Equipment
Arms are a part of the body that just about everyone wants to reshape. Free weights offer the most flexibility because you can easily increase the intensity by increasing the amount you lift. There are also a variety of styles to fit individual needs. Traditional barbells that range in weight from 10 to 40 or more pounds are ideal when you have a weight bench and you want a rigorous routine for building large muscles. You basically perform your reps, increasing the weight as you progress through your routine. When you travel or if you are interested in slight definition, you will want to invest in a smaller set of dumbbells. If you have back problems, aquatic barbells may be a better option. You use this equipment in a swimming pool where the water provides support.
