Boron An Important Dietary Supplement

Amongst the various minerals and trace mineral supplements, boron holds a lot of promise as well as potential for exploration. Although, it is considered as an ultra trace mineral, still its presence is an important requirement for important physiological functionality.

Boron and its requirement and benefits for human beings

In the recent works, carried out on human beings, the importance of Boron is being identified as well as justified. The role of Boron in animals and plant nutrition is already well determined and material evidence indicating its importance in mineral supplement and body building is also seeing a collective growth. Although, it is worth mentioning that the research clearly suggests an upper limit for the consumption of boron as a mineral supplement.

Boron and health

Boron is directly or indirectly involved in proper bone structure and strength, it seems to have a regulatory effect on calcium and potassium metabolism and hence, it could be a major factor of growth and development, especially during the younger age. Neuronal functions as well as brain performance are also affected by Boron and hence an appropriate level is a must for best performance.

Boron may also have a oestrogen type action therefore, maintained the levels of estradiol in menopausal women, providing evidence of their usefulness in this regard. An important role of Boron has been illustrated in its effectiveness against arthritis, which is a painful joints disorder. In total, Boron can be directly or indirectly involved in improving health and performance.

Food material rich in boron

Although, external supplementation is available in the form of various over the counter products, yet by taking an appropriate diet the required levels of Boron in the body can be maintained. These food components include non-citrus fruits, green and leafy vegetables. Nuts are also considered as rich source of Boron. Boron is also found in very trace amounts in meat, fish and poultry products. Other sources include bear wine and grape seed extract as well.
