Candida Diet For Treating Yeast Infection

Overgrowth of the Candida yeast causes fungal infection. These yeasts are normally present in the moist parts of the body including the mouth, intestines, genitals and the urinary tract.

The Candida yeasts living in the body of a healthy human with a strong immune system are harmless. The powerful army of good bacteria prevents growth and multiplication of the fungi. Occasionally, the Candida yeast overpowers the beneficial bacteria, causing uncontrolled growth of the yeast, leading to a wide range of fungal diseases. Candida diet includes foods that prevent yeast overgrowth and excludes foods that boost multiplication of the fungal cells.

Candida diet is recommended for people suffering from Candida infection. This diet could even reduce the risk of recurrent yeast infection. The Candida diet plan begins with detoxification of the body to remove the wastes generated by the Candida yeasts. Detoxification or Candida cleansing entails colon cleansing through fasting and juice diet. You should drink enough water and fresh vegetable and wheatgrass juices. Herbs that help in detoxification could be included in the diet. Stay away from fruits, nuts, caffeine and alcohol during the detoxification phase of Candida diet. The detoxification phase usually lasts for about two weeks.

After detoxification, you should try to restore the fungal and bacterial balance by taking supplements and herbs that prevent overgrowth of Candida yeasts. Foods that inhibit multiplication of the yeast cells include garlic, onions, radish, peppers, turnip, avocado, asparagus, eggplant, zucchini, celery, spinach, cucumber, tomatoes, okra and cruciferous vegetables. Avoid foods that the Candida yeasts love to savor. Eliminate starchy vegetables such as potato, carrots, sweat potato, yam, corn, beet and vegetables of the squash family excluding zucchini from the diet. A high protein diet could inhibit yeast growth. Fish, egg, chicken and lean meat could be part of the Candida diet. You can also take protein supplements. Remove wheat, all forms of sugar including honey, aged cheese, fresh fruits, fermented foods, vinegar, mushroom and all foods that contain yeast as an ingredient from your diet. Dietary supplements containing green algae could slow down Candida growth. Unsweetened yogurt and probiotic supplements should be taken to promote growth of beneficial bacteria in the gut.
