Fitness of the Brain by Breathing Exercises

Apart from physical fitness, another important aspect of health is the mental fitness. Akin to our body our brain also needs exercising, relaxation as well as rest for an improved and up to the mark performance throughout.

Improving mental fitness through breathing exercises

Out brain needs an excessive amount of oxygen, as it is the epicenter and control panel of all the activities that our body performs. In order to have a sound mental fitness, it is important to give brain its due share of oxygen that we breathe. A few exercises may be really helpful in doing so and are detailed here under.

Pranayama, Kapal Bharti and Breathing exercises are excellent breathing actions

As we have previously discussed in our articles on this blog, the yoga based action like Pranayama are highly beneficial not only in improving the respiratory volume but they are useful in ensuring an appropriate supply of oxygen to the cerebellum and the brain cells.

How do breathing exercise improve brain performance?

An improved breathing ensures that the brain becomes attentive and alert, it also helps in making sure that the neurons perform their function appropriately. It is also important that the improved supply of oxygen helps in relaxation as well as reduced stress. Oxygen supply also helps in improving metabolic performance of Breathing exercises are an excellent way of shedding out the anger and sad emotions on one part, and on the other they help in making you feel, happy, comfortable and full of joy.

Breathing pace and effectiveness

While slow and controlled rate breathing exercises help in achieving spiritual trans and relaxation, fast paced breathing actions like Kapal Bharti or abdominal breathing ensure muscular workout and improved lung capacity making body rich in oxygen supply.

Pollution and breathing exercises

Well! It is a known fact that we all live in polluted locality and Mother Nature has been ill treated by us leading to air pollution. Therefore, there is no point in breathing the polluted air, therefore, you have to make sure that you perform these breathing exercises in a region which is full of greenery i.e. a park or a lawn. Using breathing air filters could also be a point of consideration to ensure a proper, clean air supply to the lungs.
