Glucosamine- Is It Safe to Use?

Many of the body builders develop elbow tendonitis or inflammation in certain joints which is accompanied by pain and restrictive movements.

This is because of the excessive use of the joints and as per the use; the body is not able to supply enough glucosamine which are necessary for proper functioning of joints.

Glucosamine is a naturally occurring
aminomonosaccharide that is present in the human body and is synthesized by the chondrocytes in the cartilage. Glucosamine helps to develop and maintain healthy cartilage and connective tissues as it makes long chains of glycosaminoglycans which are essential for repairing the cartilage and joints.

Glycosaminoglycans are the main components of proteoglycans which are the larger protein molecules that absorb and hold water so as to provide cushioning effects and elasticity to the connective tissues and protects the joints from excessive wear and tear. Hence without glucosamine, the ligaments, tendons, nails, bones, mucous membrane etc won’t work properly.

Usually the body produces glucosamine
that is essential to carryout the various functions in the body but with age, increased athletic activities, exercises and chronic degenerations, the rate of glucosamine production decreases.

In this situation human body won’t be able to cope with the glucosamine demand and hence it requires glucosamine supplements.

There are four types of glucosamine supplements such as glucosamine hydrochloride, glucosamine hydroiodide, glucosamine sulfate and N-acetyl glucosamine and among which only the hydrochloride and sulfate versions are recommended.

Most of the bodybuilders who use their joints severely for weight trainings may require glusocamine to cushion and lubricate their joints. Deficiency of this amino sugar causes inflammation of the joints that prevent them from doing exercises.

These supplements when taken internally stimulate the production of excess synovial fluid and allow smooth movements of joints.

It reduces the joint pain significantly as it has good anti-inflammatory properties. This amino sugar supplements provides best results when taken at the dosage of 500mg thrice a day.
Glucosamine Sideeffects

Even though most of the experts suggest that glucosamine is safe to use, it causes certain side effects in some people. As this supplement contains shellfish, people who are allergic to fish may develop allergic reactions.
