Gynecomastia Due To Anabolic Steroids
August 11, 2009
Gynecomastia is one of the negative effects occurring due to the usage of the anabolic steroid. Gyneomastia is the development of female like breast in men.
This happens due to the excess production of female hormone estrogen in the body of men. Naturally, minute quantity of estrogen is produced by the men, however, due to the usage of steroids this production increases. Anabolic steroids are known to convert into estrogen in the body due to the chemical reactions.
Due to high consumption of anabolic steroids the production of male hormone testosterone goes down. It takes few months for the male hormonal glands to resume their original production capacity of producing male hormones once the usage of steroids is stopped. During this period, the estrogen accumulated in the body plays its role and develops the breast in men in the absence of the testosterone. Development of male breast depends on the quantity of the anabolic steroids taken and for the period they have been consumed.
Many bodybuilders avoid this situation by carefully choosing steroids that do not get converted to estrogen at the end or by consuming anti estrogens along with the anabolic steroids. Nolvadex and Proviron are the anti estrogens available in market.
It is also advisable to alternate your anabolic steroids cycles with the anti estrogens. However, the anti estrogens are not always successful but they may reduce the chances of gynecomastia. Moreover, it also increases the impact of the steroids as there is no production of the estrogen to dilute the effect of the testosterone on your muscles.
Once the steroid cycle is over, do not stop the anti estrogen abruptly or else it may lead to slight development of breasts. Alternatively, continue its dosage for few days and reduce the quantity gradually. If the anti estrogen is stopped suddenly, the body in order to maintain the hormonal balance would produce estrogen to match it with the higher amount of testosterone present in blood stream.
Presently, there is no treatment of gynecomastia with the oral medication. The only possible treatment to get rid of breasts is getting them surgically removed that is expensive and troublesome at the same time.
