Health and Body Maintenance During Winters
January 2, 2009
With the advent of winter season an inactive schedule due to laziness ensues. This lethargy or laziness could be a major cause of loss of stamina, strength and agility. In this context a few important tips regarding a balanced diet use of appropriate exercises can be very useful in providing positive health as well as psychological benefits. This kind of routine could be more than handy in fighting cold, flu and what is more important is that it also helps you to reduce your belly fat.
Before you make a start
As the winter approaches the muscles are generally stiffer so a proper start to the work out and slow and steady warm up becomes mandatory. A cold start to the exercising may lead to pulled muscles, which may be the hamstrings or the quads. To avoid injuries at the start itself involve yourself in exercise, such as jogging or rope skipping before you start workout.
If you have stairs at home then take the stairs, especially in winter. A climb of 20 stairs 10 times a day helps you to burn approximately 3000 calories. It may seem inappropriate but while you’re sitting and relaxing try and swing your legs, tap your feet and try and burn as many calories as you can possibly do.
Winter sunlight is healthy
As we have already discussed in our previous article sunlight helps to increase the production of the mood enhancing neurotransmitter i.e. serotonin as well as Vitamin D concentration in the body which is required for the absorption of Calcium. Therefore, enjoy the warm sun in your lawn and apart from enjoying nature also have a health improving effect.
Diet for the winters, a balance is a must
If you are interested in taking non vegetarian items low fat meats should be preferred, these include chicken, fish and lean beef (although, if they are cooked in a lot of oil than the heath benefits are gone), low fat dairy products, whole grains and a rich amount of citrus fruits and vegetables like lettuce and turnips can also be helpful in making you fit and healthy.
What else?
Apart from diet and exercise it is also important to have a proper liquid intake and last but not the least ensure a proper sleep pattern to enjoy a healthy winter.
