Magnesium is a very important mineral which is required by our body for more than 300 bodily functions. It is necessary for energy production, maintaining healthy bone density, protein formation, DNA production and nerve conduction. Sources of magnesium are fruits, vegetables, legumes, seafood, grains and nut and seeds.

Health Benefits of Magnesium

Magnesium is very important for a healthy heart as it prevents from ischemic heart disease and stroke. Its deficiency can lead to lowering of HDL (good) cholesterol, hardening of arteries and irregular or abnormally fast heartbeats. Not only this, it also prevents blood clotting in heart.

It also helps in maintaining blood pressure; proper muscle function and keeping the muscles relax, helps in absorbing calcium and potassium and is very necessary for proper functioning of nervous system.

Taking magnesium supplement helps the diabetic person in improving insulin and glucose level, as almost 80% of the people suffering from diabetes have magnesium deficiency.  Not only diabetic person but people suffering from migraine also have magnesium deficiency. Thus, intake of magnesium reduces the duration, intensity and frequency of migration.

Intake of 100gm or 400gm of magnesium everyday helps in reducing pain because of leg cramps or other muscle cramp and restless legs syndrome. It also helps people suffering from angina and back pain. Magnesium intake helps in disappearing hiccups.

Magnesium has a relaxing effect on lung airways, so it’s very useful for asthma people. It also helps in curing constipation, fatigue or headache and people suffering from fibromyalgia.

Magnesium deficiency can lead to nervousness, anxiety, agitated sleep and frequent awakening.

Magnesium is very good for women as it helps in relieving the symptoms of pre menstrual syndrome and menopause. It reduces the risk of pre-eclampsia in pregnant women which can lead to abortions, premature or low-birth weight babies. It also maintains strong bones and prevents the osteoporosis. It is important for normal bone metabolism.
