Is Nicotine Safe for Bodybuilders

Nicotine is a form of organic alkaloid particularly obtained from tobacco plants. The consumption of nicotine in petite quantities acts as an agonist of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors stimulating the activity which further results in augmented release of adrenaline but when taken in high quantity it poses great danger to life.
The regular intake of nicotine remarkably stimulates the level of dopamine in brain which results in temporary feeling of happiness. The short term withdrawal effects of nicotine comprise irritation, rapid mood transformation, headache, anxiety etc.
If taken in prescribed limits nicotine proves to be a valuable source for bodybuilders to assist in reducing body fat. Several studies done in the concerned field suggests that merely one gram of nicotine supplement elevates the total calorie consumption by increasing the rate of thermo genesis and metabolism.
Studies also revealed that nicotine decreases the secretion of insulin leading to an elevated state of fat, protein and glucose burning in body. There are several nicotine based products available in market like chewing gums, nasal sprays etc to deliver the adequate quantity of nicotine in body rather than the conventional cigarettes containing high quantity of nicotine. The adoption of such nicotine based merchandise is much useful to avert the severe consequences of tobacco smoking.
There are a number of benefits associated with consumption of nicotine in cases where it is taken in restricted quantities, it is not possible to ignore the harmful effects it leaves on the human health even if taken in appropriate quantity without consent of medical practitioner.
The regular consumption of nicotine in any form constricts muscle growth in bodybuilders due to its tendency to reduce flow of oxygen in blood cells. Nicotine also reduces the muscle growth by decreasing the level of testosterone, which is a key substance that assists in muscle growth.
The habit of smoking with bodybuilding is prohibited by the trainers as it acts as fatigue friendly agent, reducing the level of energy in body and also diminishes the recovery time of body post training sessions.
It is evident that although nicotine when taken properly facilitates to loose body fat but also harms an athlete’s body in several ways. By comparing the advantages of nicotine consumption with the number of severe damages it causes to the human health, in no way the nicotine can be considered as a safe drug.
