Kapal Bharti A Yoga Based Breathing Exercise To Reduce Weight

Yoga and Yoga based exercises or postures, also known as ‘Asanas’ are getting a lot of public as well as medical attention for improving the health, and also for reducing body weight. Amongst the various popular yoga asaans, Pranayama i.e. the yoga action which requires controlled breathing is quiet signficant.

We have already shed light on the role of ‘Pranayama’ in body health, and its effectiveness for improving the weight loss. This time we would be taking a closer look at Kapal Bharti which is another form of Pranayama involving faster breathing patterns from the health perspective.

What is Kapal Bharti?

This is one question that also needs to be answered and the answer holds the key to its practice as well. This yoga action is considered to be useful in awakening,enlightenment of the spirit and brain i.e ‘kapala’ . The asana has to be performed as follows:

Sit in the lotus position or in the normal Padmasan position, start taking short breaths in and out with force, try and do as many reps as possible. Once you start feeling some pain in back or spine take a break, further perform this action and make repetitions of this breathing for at least 4-5 times for 15 minutes a day. As you practise it daily, you will start to enjoy the rhythm estabilished between the abdomen and the stomach.

Advantages of Kapal bharti for body builders

Kapal Bharti significantly improves control over breathing and oxygenates the whole blood flow, this not only increases the work capacity but also the lung capacity, which is vital to an athletic performance. Apart from this ‘Kapal Bharti’ is also known for cleansing and detoxification of the body from toxins produced by over- work or stress. A lot of calories can be burnt by the rapid breathing procedure followed during Kapal Bharti. In general, Yoga based action like Kapal Bharti could have a lot of beneficial effects on the body and could be a vital asset to the weight loss programs as well.
