Bodybuilding is mainly about the perfect workout plan and balanced diet. However, an important class of elements are ignored in the diet as there importance for bodybuilders is overlooked quite often.

Minerals are a class of micro nutrients which assist body in many biological processes and is extremely important for the completion of some biological processes, Usually, a balanced diet provides with the minerals, however, for aspiring bodybuilders the requirement of minerals may be different depending on the bodybuilding exercises.

Magnesium – Magnesium is related with the protein synthesis and production of energy. Magnesium is actively lost by bodybuilders in sweat and does not get replenishes as the food rich in magnesium is not a part of bodybuilders balanced diet. Legumes and nuts are specifically rich in magnesium. The importance of magnesium can be easily comprehended by understanding the processes it is vital for. Without magnesium, protein production in body would not be speedy and perfect. The importance of protein for the bodybuilders cannot be undermined.

Calcium – Calcium is a popular mineral, however, its importance for the bodybuilders is underestimated. The ratio of calcium to phosphorus needs to be maintained as bodybuilders tend to consume far more phosphorus in proteins than the calcium in milk products. Calcium is required for contraction of muscles.

Iron – Iron is an important component of haemoglobin and binds the oxygen with blood. It also delivers and carries the oxygen to the body tissues via blood. Its oxygen carrier role is of greater importance for the bodybuilders. Between the reps, when muscles require oxygen, the ample quantity of iron in blood would supply the much required amount of oxygen to the muscle tissue, thereby reducing the chances of fatigue.

Phosphorus – Phosphorus is required to produce ATP which is energy molecule. Phosphorus with calcium produce theses energy molecules and it is necessary to maintain the calcium phosphorus ratio.

Vanadium – Vanadium stores glycogen in the muscle tissues and is becoming popular among the bodybuilders. Bodybuilders take vanadium in the form of vanadyl sulphate to overcome the deficiency of vanadium in muscles.
