Murray Koenigi The Curry Leaves Are Useful In Loosing Body Weight
‘Curry patta’ or leave which is botanically designated as Murraya koenigi is a household name in Indian houses. These are also sometimes referred to as Meethi Neem i.e. the Neem plant without the bitter odour. The leaves of this plant have been utilized in cooking since time immemorial, and until recently not much was known about the health benefits of these leaves.
These curry leaves grow on a small shrub which is commonly found in backyards or gardens around Indian houses. The edible part of these plants is their leaves. The leaves in general are shiny, dark green, aromatic and possess a very slightly bitter taste. These leaves have been one of the major ingredients of Indian curries, cooked vegetables, salads, chutneys and spices, their aroma is wonderful and they are also considered as a taste enhancing additive of the Indian food.
Hypolipidemic activity of Murraya koenigi
In a research published in the American journal of Chinese Medicine, it was revealed that Dietary supplement with curry leaves has been shown to reduced total serum cholesterol, LDL + VLDL, increased HDL, decreased the release of lipoproteins into circulation and increased catalase activity in rats. In this multicentric research, it was also observed that curry leaf (Murraya koenigi) extract possesses the property to decrease blood cholesterol and blood glucose levels in diabetic mice.
Antidiabetic potential of Murraya koenigi
Another important usefulness of Murraya koenigi is in its ability to reduce the harmful effects of diabetic conditions. Researchers have been able to find out a variety of mechanism by which this herb acts on the body, and allows for a better management of diabetes. In a very interesting research finding, the leaves of Murraya koenigi have been found to be very useful in reducing the obesity due to diabetes.
In general, it can be stated that there are optimum scientific evidences collected this far that Murraya koenigi can be considered as a potent dietary supplement for improving weight loss as well as improving the conditions in diabetic persons.
