Rationale for Sudden Weight Gain
The most obvious reason for rapid weight gain is lack of exercise and the habit of overeating leading to accumulation of fat in body. General remedy to loose weight is to combine exercise with healthy diet plan. However, sometimes it becomes hard to loose weight with all these methods, then it might be the time to think that the reason for weight gain can be skin deep. Any of the following can also be a probable reason for sudden weight gain.
Thyroid Hormone –
Also known as hypothyroidism, this disease occurs due to reduced secretion of thyroid hormone. Deficit of thyroid hormone reduces the metabolism of food resulting in weight gain. Common symptoms of hypothyroidism include fatigue, exhaustion, swelling of eyes, face, and weakness.
Essential Fatty Acid -
Essential fatty acids make hormones and maintains metabolic rate of body. Its deficiency results in hunger for fatty foods. Common symptoms of deficiency of essential fatty acids include dandruff, dry hair and dry, scaly skin.
Cortisol Hormone –
Excess secretion of cortisol hormone causes “Cushing Syndrome”. The fat gets accumulated on face, upper back and abdomen. The symptoms are weakness, poor wound healing, high blood pressure, and hair loss in women. Cortisol hormone is also known as stress hormone.
Hormone Replacement Therapy –
Consumption of oral contraceptives with estrogen results in fluid retention and improved hunger. Steroids, antidepressants and diabetic medications also cause weight gain.
Organs Disease -
Kidney, Liver or Heart Disease causes the fluid retention resulting in puffiness in body, mainly in eyes and ankles. Edema is a kidney disease which results in the retention of fluids in the body followed by the weight gain.
Depression –
Eating excessively can be due to depression or stress. Eating in large quantities due to stress or depression also leads to sudden weight gain.
