Significance of Glutamine for Bodybuilders

June 26, 2009

In a human body 2/3 of the free form amino acids in muscles are formed of glutamine. The growth of body muscle does depend on the levels of free glutamine present inside muscles. It is not possible for anyone to obtain glutamine unswervingly from food as it is digested and altered in the intestine only. In reference with the study done by the researchers in mid 8Os, it was revealed that free glutamine levels and muscle protein synthesis present inside muscles interrelate with each other.

It is best for people indulged in heavy athletics like bodybuilding to keep their glutamine levels high as high glutamine assists in building natural proteins and delivers nitrogen atoms to atoms that are known to generate nitrogen rich molecules like DNA base and amino acids, which are extraordinarily valuable for unrelenting muscle growth and immune system.

Elevated levels of glutamine are of much essence for bodybuilders as they require unremitting supply of nitrogen to sustain an optimistic nitrogen balance and anabolic surroundings for continuous muscle enhancement.

There are many benefits of Glutamine, it assists in loosing weight by increasing the body’s capability to ooze human growth hormone, which is mainly used in burning excess fat, generation of glucose in liver and promotes muscles anabolism. During intense training sessions, glutamine preserves protein and nitrogen balance when body enters into a situation known as micro trauma.

To maintain adequate glutamine in body, it is must to consume glutamine rich protein supplements besides carbs post intense sessions.  Several researches have revealed that cases in which the generation of glutamine is up to mark after intense training sessions, were found to be less prone to problems like less muscle development and also could be referred as advancements in muscle protein synthesis.

While consuming diets with an intention to increase glutamine levels, it is must to take into consideration that cooking sometimes annihilates maximum glutamine present in food items. It is of utmost significance to consume food items like spinach and parsley in raw forms to gain maximum out of it.

Salads are one of the examples of such food. In general, to provide muscles with this vital amino acid the glutamine supplements must be consumed in dry form and ought to be taken on an empty stomach.

The prescribed dosage of these supplements is not more than 5 gm per day. Although in case of excess intake it does not pose lethal threats.
