Take Good Care Of Your Spine While Exercising
November 5, 2008
A perfectly-aligned, fully flexible spine is one of the prerequisites for a perfect health. Although we might think that we are born into this world with a perfect spine, it isn’t always true! Unfortunately, even as early as the moment of birth itself, the process of damage to the spine has begun.
Authorities say that many physicians grab the baby’s head as it emerges during birth, twisting the head up and down to bring out the baby’s shoulders, stressing and twisting the tiny spine. During this process a number of spinal misalignmentsor slight breaks can happen, interfering with the child’s health.
Apart from the possibility of a spinal cord injury during birth, a lot of other problems could lead to back problems, which may include lack of exercising, inappropriate posture and seating and sleeping habits, injury may also be incurred during a wrong lift during any of the weight training exercises.
Spinal cord holds the key to fitness
Backbone has always been equated with courage, and as a body part with key role in physical fitness. However, physical fitness is more than muscular power: It is the superior condition of the human body and its frame. Let us briefly summarize the key role of the spine in almost every function of the human body. It is the pivot of the skeleton – the framework of bones giving the body its shape. Anchored to the spine are layers of large and small muscles and ligaments of the back and abdomen, essential in holding the body erect and the vital organs in place (even these organs themselves are supported by the spine).
Taking care of the spine during exercising
An inappropriately performed weight training is one of the major causes of spinal problems and therefore the first mandatory care for the spine is, to perform the weight training with utmost care and under supervision, it is always better to use back supports with foamed backing as they provide a key safeguard to any injury that might be incurred during bench press or other weight training schedule.
Always remember, the spine holds the key to your posture and always take good care of your back during exercising.

Exercise doesn’t always mean hitting the gym and spending hours on the treadmills, stair masters and bikes. Get some comfortable shoes or trainers on and get out walking. There’s a whole world out there to take advantage of and it doesn’t cost a thing.
