What is thyroid gland and how does it help?
The thyroid gland is considered to be one of the master gland of the body. It has got this adjective of ‘master’ for its ability to regulate the metabolism rate of the body. The gland is the control centre of all the energy interactions and transfers that occur in our body. In fact, thyroid gland could also be termed as the powerhouse regulator as metabolism is the key to generate power and strength in our body.
Where is the thyroid gland located?
It is a small butterfly- shaped gland wrapped around the windpipe behind and below the Adam’s apple area. The thyroid produces two key hormones, triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4). These hormones play a key role in the body and fuel the cells with the very important oxygen to enhance their metabolic rate.
What is hypothyroidism and how does it affect obesity?
In general, a lack of thyroid function resulting in decreased quantity of thyroid hormones, is a key cause of obesity, especially in females. Thyroid glands regulate other hormones of the body and hence result in imbalance of estrogenic hormones leading to obesity.

Taking appropriately nutritive diets and regular exercise is a key to retain proper body weight.
