Vitamin B12 Information & Benefits for bodybuilding

June 12, 2008

Vitamin B12 is one of eight vitamins in the B complex. A water-soluble vitamin, B12 works closely with other B vitamins, particularly folic acid. Vitamin B12 activates the folic acid coenzyme and is also activated as a coenzyme by folic acid.

Vitamin B12 is necessary for the synthesis of DNA and RNA. It is also involved in the synthesis of red blood cells. In addition, Vitamin B12 protects nerve fibers by maintaining the sheath that surrounds them, and it promotes the normal growth of nerve fibers as well. Benefits of Vitamins B12

Although the functions of vitamin B12 are numerous, those important to bodybuilders include carbohydrate metabolism and maintenance of nervous system tissue (the spinal cord and nerves that carry signals from the brain to muscle tissues). Stimulation of muscles via nerves is a critical step in the contraction, coordination and growth of muscles.

Vitamin B12 for energy is highly beneficial in various forms. Methylcobalamin, the coenzyme form of vitamin B12 is a body-friendly version, which means that no metabolic steps are required for its ingestion and it can be used it in its normal form. It is available as a sublingual tablet that dissolves under the tongue (because the digestive system might modify this molecule). Through this method, vitamin B12 can directly penetrate the bloodstream and yield numerous benefits. Hydroxocobalamin is another form of vitamin B12 that has been recognized as an effective cure for cyanide poisoning.

The only recognized therapeutic use of vitamin B12 is to prevent and correct pernicious anemia. It should be noted here that once B12 has been given to correct pernicious anemia, the treatment must be continued for life to bypass faulty vitamin absorption mechanism.

Vitamin B12 is a very safe, and affordable, supplement with real benefits of vitamin b 12. For anyone that is concerned about their health, proper supplementation can play a very important role. If you have any of the symptoms or conditions associated with Vitamin B12 deficiency try taking a coenzyme form of B12, usually Methylcobalamin, and a B-Complex Vitamin with Folic Acid for a two week period.

Many people with low iron in the blood, it is essential to take the B12 vitamin, Bodybuilding also uses this vitamin because it does contain many separate anabolic properties. A B-complex vitamin supplement will harness all the benefits of the anabolics and vitamins in one tablet. The main reason bodybuilders like to make sure they are getting enough B12 is that it aids in digestion and absorption of the proteins and carbs they ingest in the food. B12 is also a vitamin that plays a role as an enzyme in many bodily functions.

Vitamin B12 helps maintain the myelin sheath that insulates nerve fibres from each other. B12 deficiency can cause a type of anemia marked by fewer but larger red blood cells that’s called pernicious anemia. It can also cause walking and balance problems, sore tongue, weakness, confusion and, in advanced cases, dementia. Vegetarians who eliminate all animal sources from their diet (also known as vegans) may benefit from taking a vitamin B12 supplement. Vitamin B12 is bound to the protein in food. Hydrochloric acid in the stomach releases B12 from proteins in foods during digestion. Hydroxocobalamin is a man-made form of vitamin B12. Vitamin B12′s main functions are in the formation of red blood cells and the maintenence of a healthy nervous system. Prolonged B12 deficiency can lead to nerve degeneration and irreversible neurological damage.
