Most of the weight controlling functions of the body like hunger; rate of metabolism etc. becomes efficient only when there is an optimum vitamin intake. Even though many vitamins play a role in carrying out these functions some vitamins has a vital role in weight loss.

Vitamin B2

This vitamin is also called riboflavin and it plays a major role in improving the metabolic rate of the body. More over it is also essential for the normal functioning of the thyroid gland. A hypo active thyroid gland prevents a person from loosing weight. Hence increase the intake of foods that contain vitamin B2 such as almonds, eggs, liver, milk, kidney, hard cheese, green leafy vegetables etc.

Vitamin B3

Vitamin B3 which is otherwise known as niacin is necessary for maintaining the normal functioning of thyroid gland. Being a part of glucose tolerance factor which get released in to the blood when ever the level of blood sugar level gets increased, vitamin B3 is essential for controlling the fat deposition. Sources of vitamin B3 are tuna, salmon, mackerel, dried fruits, wheat bran, brown rice etc.

Vitamin B5

Pantothenic acid or vitamin B5 helps to burn fat and produce energy. It also assists the functioning of adrenal gland. Vitamin B5 rich foods include wheat flakes, wheat germ, oats, egg, poultry, meat, whole grain, green vegetables etc.

Vitamin B6

Pyridoxine or B6 regulates the functioning of thyroid gland and increases the metabolic rate and helps to lose weight easily. Foods like sardines, mackerel, avocado, cabbage, brown rice, banana, dried fruits etc are rich with vitamin B6.

Vitamin C

It helps to burn fat and glucose to supply energy to the body to avoid fatigue. Sources of vitamin C are organs, cabbage, broccoli, lemon, green peppers, Brussels sprout etc.


Choline which is produced by the liver is essential for maintaining proper metabolism of fat and any deficiency of choline lead to the deposition of fat in the liver. Ideal sources of choline are beef liver, egg yolks, cauliflower, peanuts, cucumber etc.


This is also a B complex vitamin synthesized inside the body and in combination with choline it helps in fat metabolism. Good Inositol sources are whole grain, citrus fruits, nuts, wheat germ, soy, beef liver etc.

Hence while planning for weight loss, try to include all those vitamins that aids in burning fat and trigger weight loss.
