Weight Loss Is Not Entirely Dependent On Fat Consumption
December 24, 2008
Interestingly enough, it is now a proven fact that a completely fat free diet is not the actual solution to the problem of obesity. Well! It may seem to be pertinent that the fat is the sole contributor to all sort of problems associated with obesity, but believe us it is not the complete fat domain that leads to obesity.
What is the actual cause of obesity?
After reading through the first few lines, what pounces in our mind is, what kind of fats actually results in obesity. Obesity is a metabolic disorder, and mostly it is because of faulty balance between energy consumption and energy storage. The causes may be multifaceted, but the fat deposition is the final outcome.
Appropriate fat consumption and dietary requirements
As soon as we put on extra fat, we start moving to a low fat or even no fat diet like dry toasts, dark breads, fruits only and low calorie juices. This is not appropriate, because body needs certain essential fatty acids for proper metabolic performance (read the article on Omega-3 and 6 fatty acids). Apart from this certain acceptable trans fats are also mandatory to assist cushioning of muscular and bone joints.
A recommended dietary regimen
It is interesting as well as revealing that in most successful dietary programs of weight loss a generalized break up of a healthy nutritional program consists of 40 percent low-glycemic carbohydrates, 30 percent lean protein, and 30 percent acceptable low calorie fats.
Complete abstinence from fat could lead to complication?
You may have well understood by now that you cannot avoid fats and stay healthy. Not only are the fats a vital source of energy, our body needs them in a certain amount to function efficiently. Since most fats are commonly available on consuming animal foods or can be synthesized in body from carbohydrates they are not required as diet on regular basis.
However fatty acids like omega-6 and omega-3 are not manageable by our body and are needed to be supplied externally. Not only such essential fatty acids vital to stay healthy, but their deficiency could lead to various problems like dry and scaly skin, dermatitis, and hair loss.
Therefore, after a proper consultation with a nutrition expert or your dietician, you should look out for a diet which is free from obesity producing substances and not necessarily fats.
