Whey Protein an Excellent Supplement for Body Building

Amidst various dietary supplements finding lot of importance in the modern diet and usefulness in body building, whey protein is finding lot of popularity and benefits. Apart from the various useful benefits it is also worth noting down that the whey protein is useful in promoting disease resistance along with muscle building properties. In the present article, we would attempt to have a look at the important health benefits of whey proteins and its chemical nature as well.

What is whey protein?

Whey is a cheese product. In simple terms, whey protein can be considered as a collection of globular proteins. Whey is generally obtainable from the cheese manufactured from cows milk. The major proteins that constitute whey protein include, a prototype mixture of ? lactoglobulin which may be present in between a quantity of 60-65%, the ? form of lactalbumin which constitutes up to one quarter of whey protein. Apart from this the serum albumin typ protein is also present in an appreciable 8-10% w/w range. The important property of theses proteins is their inherent ability of solubilising in native form. In terms of w/w basis, the whey protein composition is nearly 10% in total whey consumed in its solid form.

Health benefits of whey proteins

A lot of medicinal importance has been advocated for the whey proteins off late. In general, these properties include the most important immune system potentiating activity which in turn enhances disease resistance.

Whey protein and body building

Protein rich diet consumption is commonplace in most of the bodybuilding arena. Amongst these products, whey protein has its own special position. It is commendable that whey protein is highest consumed protein product in the modern bopdybuilding society. It is generally attributed that, whey proteins help in a much faster recovery from any athletic or muscular injury.

Muscle development rate has been found to be accelerated by 15-20% upon regular consumption of whey proteins. As already mentioned, the consumption of whey protein is extremely beneficial in potentiating the immune system of trainers making their disease fighting capacity stronger. Whey protein are also considered as an important substitute for cysteine and are rich source of glutathione providing free radical scavenging properties.

In general it can be affirmed that whey protein provides an excellent solution for the body building athletes and weight trainers.
